The Importance of Seniors’ Health and Fitness

Staying active is hugely important for both mental health and physical health, and this is especially true as we get older. Reduced bone density is a very natural part of the ageing process, and can be problematic, affecting your strength and increasing the risk of injury should you experience a fall.

There are many issues which come up as we age that need to be addressed. These issues may include:
Maintaining Muscle/ Strength – did you know that you start to lose muscle as you age? It is estimated that we lose 3-5% of our muscle per decade starting from the age of 30 if you are inactive. This means that by the time you are 70 you may have lost up to 20% of your muscle mass.

How Is Senior Training Different

There are many issues which come up as we age that need to be addressed. These issues may include:

Maintaining Muscle/ Strength – did you know that you start to lose muscle as you age? It is estimated that we lose 3-5% of our muscle per decade starting from the age of 30 if you are inactive. This means that by the time you are 70 you may have lost up to 20% of your muscle mass.

Balance – one of the biggest risks among people aged 65+ is falling. According to the CDC, 1 out of 5 falls by people aged 65+ can result in a broken bone or head injury.

Mobility/ Flexibility – as we age we lose a lot of the flexibility we had when we were younger. We aren’t able to move as easily as we once could, and we often feel pain in our shoulders, back knees, and hips. Improving mobility and flexibility makes it easier for you to get through your day, and reduces the risk of injury.

Lifestyle Factors – we work with many people who enjoy activities like traveling, gardening and golfing. Whether it’s booking a walking tour, or shaving a couple strokes off of your golf game an exercise program can help you make the most of the activities you love to do!

A good exercise program focusing on your needs can help you live a healthy life, doing the activities you enjoy doing most!
