Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain

Symptoms of fibromyalgia include pain that can be felt across the body, tiredness and fatigue, and muscle stiffness. While the exact cause of fibromyalgia remains unknown, and recognizing that every case is different, there are some forms of exercises and stretches that have been shown to help improve fibromyalgia symptoms. Speak to a Gentle Motion stretch therapist in Toronto for more information.

Depression and Anxiety

Our trainers have also worked with people who have been diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety. While no two people are the same, research does suggest that exercise can be helpful in managing these and other mental health diagnoses. Whether it’s through resistance training, kick boxing, a stretch program or simply deep breathing, our team of trainers all have different specialties that might be helpful in managing depression or anxiety symptoms. Diabetes

Diabetes occurs when a person has higher than normal blood sugar levels. Many people who have type 2 diabetes are at increased risk for heart attack/strokes, kidney disease, and many other health problems. Regular exercise has been shown to help lower blood sugar levels, and therefore eliminate many of the risks associated with diabetes.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder which can make breathing difficult, and result in a poor quality of sleep. When we are not rested, we might feel sluggish, weak, experience “mental fog” and generally struggle to get through the day. Working with a stretch therapist or personal trainer in Toronto, you can learn about some of the most beneficial exercises, movements, and stretches that can help to improve the quality of your sleep.

Multiple Sclerosis

Many of the most common symptoms of multiple sclerosis can make exercising very challenging, very uncomfortable, and potentially risky to your health. These symptoms include blurred vision, muscle spasms, joint pain, weakness, tiredness, and balance problems. Gentle Motion’s customized, gentle fitness plans outline a number of simple, straightforward, and low impact moves that can help you to keep fit in a safe way. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada also recommends stretching as a great form of management. Schedule an assessment with our Toronto stretch therapist to find out more.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

One of the most common causes of Carpal Tunnel syndrome is repeated motion; through hobbies, through work, or simply through your own personal habits and behaviours, like a tendency to bend your wrist. At Gentle Motion, we focus on safe and effective exercises and stretches for Carpal Tunnel. You’ll work with a Gentle Motion trainer in Toronto to slowly, gently, and safely stretch the elbow, wrist, digits, and thumb to relax the carpal ligament and open up the canal. Fascial stretch therapy and gentle exercises are very effective for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and can significantly help to relieve pain, as well as boost your range of motion and flexibility.

Hypertension

According to the College of Family Physicians of Canada, exercise can help to prevent hypertension(high blood pressure), and be very effective at managing Stage 1 hypertension. However, the CFP also confirms that ‘exercise prescription is underused’. While strenuous exercise isn’t often recommended in cases of hypertension due to potential strain on the cardiovascular system, Gentle Motion has a range of gentle fitness programs that can be tailored to each individual and can help to lower blood pressure.

Golfer Elbow / Tennis Elbow

Myofascial release for tennis elbow or golfer elbow can be one of the most effective and efficient forms of management. These conditions, which can result in significant joint pain, are so named because they are often caused by the repetitive motion of sports such as golf and tennis. They can affect strength and grip which could affect athletic performance, so it’s important to seek solutions to stay on top of your game. Using a combination of mobility exercises and myofascial stretch techniques, Gentle Motion can help improve flexibility and performance. Schedule a free assessment with Gentle Motion today.

Total Knee / Hip Replacement

Working to strengthen the body after a total knee or hip replacement is an important part of the recovery and healing process. However, the Arthritis Society of Canada confirms that certain movements must be limited, due to the high risk of dislocation. This means that many exercises are not suitable for post-operative patients. At Gentle Motion, we specialize in a wide range of gentle fitness programs, including small but deliberate movements and stretching exercises; these can help regain strength in the affected joint, improve balance, and increase your range of movement, without causing pain or increasing post-op risk.
